Spider-Man Wiki Issue Addressing (Volume 1) Blog 3
| This blog post is a Spider-Man Wiki staff discussion only. |
Hello all active users, (mainly Lemongrab, Tobalth, SonicSpeedster912) and Professor Bookworm, welcome to my blog that I post at least once every few weeks explaining, addressing and telling off about the current issues on this wiki, asking your input among other things. Anyone else that is not Spider-Man Wiki Staff is also free to join in and comment and give ideas if they please.
But of course, the small stuff first.

Keep or delete?
Edit
I found some categories while looking around the wiki. I wanted input on and rather or not to keep them, delete them, or rename them.
- 2099 enemies
- Noir enemies
- Human cyborgs
I can not link to them because they have not been created yet. This is another issue. Whenever you make a category page if it still says:
This page needs content. You can help by adding a sentence or a photo!
Add to this page!
Then it technically has not been created you must add text for it to be created.
Also speaking of categories, two categories I have issues with. And I don't want to delete any four of them before I get help dealing with which ones I should keep, or delete.
First off the and the Article Stubs which one should we keep? I mean the stub template adds the category "Article stubs" by default when it is added to a page, and I know everyone doesn't want that one, but what about the stub template? It can't be put on a article without linking there? So which one?
Next, as for comic books, they only need one category, which one? ? or Comic Book Issues? Again that one has not been created. Which one?
Finally (for categories) I noticed on the Marvel Database Wiki under whatever character is in a certain universe the category is named "Earth-616 Character" or "Earth-1610 Character" for here we just have "Earth-616" which is fine because we can also group objects and characters all under one.. But it seems.. Odd. I don't know. There is something about it I don't like about it just being "Earth-616". So what? Change it? Or am I just being paranoid?
Badges
Edit
Boom! I am finally able to add pictures to badges! Unless it messes up again. But I need good pictures. Also, I am going to add the Earth-1610 category badges. Again, I just need good names. That is all.
Home Page stuff
Edit
The J. Jonah Jameson and Aunt May picture should be center, in fact all of them should centered. Not demanding anyone, just asking when anyone gets the time.
Also, Sonic, I like that you did the heading "Heroes" and "Villains" with the boxed pictures. Mind doing another one with allies? You can get on it whenever you want however I want to create and edit the Wolverine and Deadpool page before you do it.
Also, the poll to right of the home page. Any ideas? Me Tobalth, and Sonic were thinking about "Favorite Villain?" or "Favorite Spider-Man Ally"? or "Favorite Comic Book Series?" does not matter which one it is, the poll will changed on September 4th.
Daily Spider-Man News?
Edit
New Spider-Man wiki user TheDarkKnighWillRise brought up a good point of perhaps bringing daily Spider-Man news to the wiki. Perhaps we can replace "New Pages" or Sonic can make another Red heading called "News in the world of Spider-Man" with news reguarding important events or news comics reguarding Spider-Man. We talked about it here: http://spiderman.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:8681 any ideas? Sounds like a good idea.
Infobox
Edit
As for the infobox does it need "unique features"? And look on the Peter Parker (Earth-616) page why is there a big page space at the top of the page? Anyway that can be fixed?
Big stuff
Edit
Now time for the big stuff. The one, the only Manual of Style two point oh!
Spider-Man Wiki Manual of Style
Articles
Edit
Titles and Headings
Article titles and headings should have the first word capitalized, along with every other word that isn't an article (example: "the", "a/an", "and"). And every character will have their first and last character name followed by whatever reality they live in. No exceptions. Ex: Peter Parker (Earth-616)
Naming
As for the naming goes on this wiki, all characters that do not have a superhero/supervillian name, (ex: Aunt May, Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy) the title of their article should be as follows:
Example: Mary Jane Watson (Earth-616)
Also full names, (not including middle names) will be used, and prefixes such as Doctor, will not be used in article titles. However, when creating or editing a character box, the full name of a person will go in the character box. And according to what reality/universe that person lives in, that shall go at the end of the article title in the form of this: (Earth-616), or (Earth-1610) etc.
Same name There are MANY different versions of Peter Parker/Spider-Man across the Marvel multiverse. And if you are having trouble naming a new article, here is how it will go.
Except for the original Peter Parker/Spider-Man that lives in Earth-616, any other versions of him that also hold the name “Peter Parker” will be named “Peter Parker”, followed by their respective reality number.
So for an example, let’s use, Spider-Man Noir. He has the same name as the original Peter Parker, but lives in a completely different reality. He lives in Earth-90214, also known as the Marvel Noir universe. The title of his article would be:
Peter Parker (Earth-90214)
And alternate versions of Spider-Man that have different names but still take on the name of Spider-Man in their respective reality will be no different. Their first and last name following they reality. For example:
Paviitr Prabhakar (Earth-50101)
If there does not exist a alternate version of a character (ex: Miles Morales, Alpha) then they still will be named by their full name, followed by their reality. Example: Miles Morales (Earth-1610)
Spelling
This is an North American English wiki, so only English will be used in all articles, editing, pictures, and categories. Also every single comic, movie, video game, or television series that involves the wall-crawler has his hero name being spelt as Spider-Man. Not spiderman, Spider-Man. We cannot empathize or stress this enough. Please spell it right when editing articles or renaming pages.
Lead section
The lead section of every article should start with the title of the article in bold and a short sentence related to it:
For Earth-616 characters it will be as such:
Example: Full Name/Hero Name (of reality number goes here) is a fictional comic book superhero character who has appeared in forms of Spider-Man media, and other comic books series published by Marvel Comics.
His/her first appearance was in (first appearance goes here)
For alternate versions of certain characters, the naming will be as such.
Full Name (of reality number goes here) also known as ___________ or by the fans as ___________, is a alternate version of __________ who small difference goes here
Or, Full Name (of reality number goes here) also known as __________ is a alternate version of _________ who small difference goes here.
His/her first appearance was in first appearance goes here
So I will use Noir Spider-Man as an example,
Peter Parker (of Earth-90214) also known as The Spider-Man or by fan as Noir Spider-Man/Spider-Man Noir, is a alternate Spider-Man who got bitten by a spider in 1933.
His first appearance was in Spider-Man: Noir (Volume 1) #1.
If the person does not have a nickname by the fans, or in the comics then just skip to ..is a alternate version of…. Part in the heading.
Character Articles
Character articles should be ordered in the following manner:
'1. 'History
2. Sub-Heading: Early Life
3. Sub-Heading: Becoming (Hero Name goes here)
4. Any necessary headings between with good titles
5. Death (only applys if character has died) (also, in the case of Silver Stable where people thought she died, quotes can be put around “Death”)
6. Personality (where applicable);
7. Powers and Abilities;
8. Under Powers and Abilities: Powers, Abilities, Strength Level
Also, as for powers and abilities, the separate powers and abilities must be bullet pointed, and be bolded such as:
· Spider-Sense: With his spider-sense, Peter can sense impending danger before it happens. His power allows him dodge bullets, and just about any projectile.
9. Equipment
10. Weaknesses (where applicable);
11. Notes (where applicable)
12. Trivia (whatever applicable). (Note: Trivia should be the very last heading in a article if there is any)
Video Game Articles
Movie Video Games
For video game articles, how should it be?
As for the header, for movie video games it should be (for example):
This?
Spider-Man 2 is a video game based on the film of the same name.
The game was published by Activision and developed by ________. It released to North America on June 28th, 2004 for GameCube, Xbox, PC, PS2, Game Boy Advance, N-Gage, Mac, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation Portable.
(if the game has only one or two developers, include them)
(if the game has many different developers, don’t include them all, just must sure to put them in the infobox)
Or this?
Spider-Man 2 is a video game released in 2004 that is based off the movie of the same name.
The game was published by Activison. The game was released for GameCube, Xbox, PC, PS2, Game Boy Advance, N-Gage, Mac, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation Portable.
Video Game Articles should ordered such as:
- · Gameplay
- · Plot Summary or Synopsis? (Gameplay or Plot Summary first?)
- · Plot
- · Marketing
- · Extras
- · Reception
- · Notes
- · Trivia
Video Games that are not based on films
This?

This?
Movie header:
(this was taken from the Spider-Man (film) article.

(should this summary (below) be here? Or not?

Spider-Man also stars Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn (a.k.a. the Green Goblin), Kirsten Dunst as Peter's love interest Mary-Jane Watson, and James Franco as his best friend Harry Osborn.
