A symbiote is an alien substance found on a far-off planet. It first appeared in Secret Wars #8.

Venom's first host was actually Spider-Man himself. During the Secret Wars, he was in the middle of a battle and a black substance latched on to his arm. When he returned to Earth with Dr. Curt Conners the Venom symbiote had totally consumed him. After soon realizing that not only did the symbiote enchance his powers but also enchanced his darker qualities (anger, revenge, etc.) and finally gets rid of it. He weakens the symbiote with loud noises and rips the costume off.
Venom's second host, Eddie Brock, did not attempt to get rid of the substance but instead enjoyed its power and used it to get his revenge against Spider-Man. Brock is one of venom's most powerful and most known host.
Its third host, Anne Weying Brock, had only a brief appearance in the short comic series The Bride of Venom.
Its fourth and last-known host is Mac Gargan, formerly the Scorpion. He bonds with the symbiote to ensure victory against Spider-Man as a member of the Sinister Twelve.
Carnage
Venom's offspring, Carnage bonds with its first host Cletus Kassidy in a prison, giving Kassidy the power to break out. Although both Venom and Carnage are viscious, Kassidy, already being a nasty serial killer, uses the symbiote's powers for murder. He mindlessly kills and both Venom and Spider-Man attempt to defeat him, though never truly succeed.
After becoming seperated from Kassidy, the Carnage symbiote then connects with the Silver Surfer (calling themselves "Cosmic Carnage"). Although later Surfer realizes he must defeat Carnage, and he rides into the sun, destroying both himself and Carnage. So both are persummed dead, but it is unclear if they really are.
In spider-man game Carnage first bond with Cletus Kasady.Carnage becomes one of two masterminds.Later,when spider-man destroy carnage (bond with Cletus) appears Monster-ock.Fusion of Doctor Octopus and Carnage himself.

Not much to tell about Toxin other than its first and only host is Patrick Mulligan and that it is Carnage's offspring. It is one of the first good symbiotes.

Donna Diego is Scream's first and only host and is Carnage's "sister".She was bonded to the other symbiotes to make Hybrid.Scream was not a good symbiote ,she killed her siblings' hosts (Agony,Lasher,Phage and Riot) and the all the symbiotes (Except Venom,Carnage,Toxin and scream) bonded together to make Hybrid

Symbiotes, once attached to a host, contain superhuman strength, strong durability, superfast speed, and a special healing ability and since it had bonded to spider-man, it can copy spider man's powers.

The symbiote's main weaknesses are fire and intense noise. In the Ultimate series, its weakneses was Electricity and fire.

in this series, The Symbiote bonds with Peter when it came in a form of a Meteorite and stuck itself to Peter's Carand it bonded with Peter while he was driving and Spider Man found himself hanging

In this video game, Venom has spawned many symbiotes which have bonded to and zombified the citizens of Manhatten. The known hosts are Wolverine,Black Cat,Vulture, and Electro along with Spider-Man. Although at the last battle with Venom, the symbiotes of Wolverine,Black Cat,Vulture, and Electro were absorbed by Venom and became the four extra heads of Venomzilla.
