Edward "Eddy" Brock is originally a rival photographer of Peter Parker's at the Daily Bugle. He idolizes Spider-Man (at the time not knowing that he and Peter are one in the same), who breaks his cameras frequently to prevent Eddy Brock from stealing his pay-check. Eddy Brock, having lost his job and apartment, is beginning to have thoughts of fatally wounding himself. He goes to the same church where Spiderman is getting rid of the Symbiote. The latter, sensing Eddy's hatred for Peter, bonds with him, transforming him into Venom. By this time, the Symbiote has been attached to Spiderman for so long that it knows his secret identity and how to duplicate all of his superabilities.
