Quentin Beck is a Spider-Man villain who is a professional illusionist. Mysterio uses devices of his own invention called "Holocubes" that project holograms (hence the name). However in addtion, these devices are capable of making light solid, and changing it back again via remote controls sensors embedded in his gauntlets. He also enjoys using robots, as he once attempted to kill Spider-Man by using robot duplicates of himself (which were also operated by his remote control sensors), but was stopped and taken to prison. He later escaped to join the Third Sinister Six. He also frequently uses "Gremlins", which are robotic demons of his own creation that dissolve into a cloud of smoke upon being punched or struck against a solid surface with significant force. The Gremlins act independently, and as such are not remote controlled. Peter has discovered that the best way to fight Mysterio is by blindfolding himself, as his Spider-Sense will let him know when he is in danger, whereas normally he would waste time and energy fighting non-solid light projections.
Although Beck originally was a normal human, with no Superhuman abilities, he gained his temporary replacement's abilities, after striking a deal with Mephisto to use Klum as a host body to return from the dead. Beck is now capable of instantaneously moving items from one place to another, and is also able to move himself and at least one other person. Beck now possesses a form of telepathy, which enables him to psionically compel other people to perform actions, even those that they would not voluntarily perform, such as drug use or suicide, and is also now capable of telekenesis (moving objects or people using only his mind).
