Peter Ross (of Earth-9602), also known as Spider-Boy is a combination of Spider-Man and DC Comics’ Superboy in the Amalgam universe.
History[]
Peter Parker was a head scientist at Project Cadmus. While attempting to create their own version of Super-Soldier (an amalgam of Captain America and Superman), Peter managed to create a clone with the power to warp gravity. An explosion in the lab killed Peter and awoke the clone before he was fully matured.
The head of the project, General Thunderbolt Ross, felt sorry for the clone, and responsible for the boy's welfare. Ross legally adopted him (giving the boy the last name of Ross) and named him Peter (after his genetic template). Peter and his "Uncle Gen" were a happy family until General Ross was killed by a mugger. Peter swore that he would face danger and make himself the center of attention so others wouldn't have to be, as he felt he had been dismissed as just a boy during the incident. Inspired by his spider-like abilities, he fashioned a costume and called himself Spider-Boy.
Spider-Boy later returned to Project Cadmus. As a Cadmus agent, Spider-Boy was assigned to battle genetic monstrosities. Spider-Boy faced many perils, such as giant lizards and alien symbiotes. He later fell in love with the Insect Queen and the two heroes got engaged.
Powers & Abilities[]
Spider-Boy's primary power is the ability to redirect his own personal gravity, allowing him to shift the pull of gravity sideways and walk on walls. He can redirect it inward and boost his strength to superhuman levels, or lower his own gravity to leap higher and farther than a normal human.
Equipment[]
- Web-Shooter Gun pistol that fires streams of synthetic webbing for the purposes of entangling enemies, or firing web-lines to swing from.
Trivia[]
- The character not only combines attributes of Spider-Man and Superboy (Pre and Post-Crisis), but his secret identity of Peter Ross is a reference to Superboy's best friend in Smallville. The name also name reflects Ben Reilly's fashion of naming himself, being a composite name inspired by the two most significant influences in his life. Both clones also alter their hair color to distinguish themselves from Peter.
