History[]

Calypso's original appearance

Calypso was a psychotic voodoo priestess, of Haitian decent, associated with Sergei Kravinoff, also known as Kraven the Hunter. Calypso seemed to enjoy driving her lover Kraven into fits of rage and furthering his hatred of Spider-Man, which ultimately led to Kraven's suicide.

Later, Calypso increased her already formidable powers by sacrificing her younger sister. She used her new abilities to hold Curt Connors, The Lizard, in her grasp, and used him in an attempt to defeat Spider-Man. However, Spider-Man managed to best them and Calypso was apparently killed.

Calypso soon returned, and freed the Lizard from The Vault so she could control him again. However, the enraged Lizard slashed her throat and then escaped.

Her voodoo preventing her from dying, Calypso returned again. Commanding a squad of savages, she attacked Spider-Man and Aloysha Kravinoff, the son of the original Kraven the Hunter. Desiring revenge for losing Sergei, she used her powers to drive Spider-Man and Aloysha into fighting each other. Spider-Man and Aloysha fought off her spell, and became friends Aloysha said that he would keep Calypso at his mansion, so the villainess could tell him about his long-lost father. However, Aloysha killed Calypso instead.

Calypso would use her voodoo to survive yet again, her spirit hopping into a series of host bodies. During many of these possessions she came into conflict with Spider-Man and Daredevil. Eventually, she found her ideal host in the zombie known as Simon Garth.
