  • Some may speculate that the revelation of the Green Goblin's identity may have caused Spider-Man co-creator and artist Steve Ditko to leave the job of penciling/inking Spider-Man titles.
  • This story is reprinted in Marvel Masterworks #16.
  • The chapter "Identity Crisis" in Untold Tales of Spider-Man takes place a few weeks prior to the happenings in this story.

  • In this issue, inker Mike Esposito is credited as "Mickey Demeo".
  • This issue is the first to feature a letters page dubbed, "The Spider's Web". Letters are published from Donald Jackson, Ron Wilshire, Mrs. Melanie Skinner, Tom Salazar, Charles Key, Don Stuckman, John Cahill, Mike McBride, and Anne Kong.
  • This is the first artwork on this title by John Romita. Stan Lee decided on John Romita Sr as the new artist after viewing his work on a Spider-Man/Daredevil crossover in Daredevil #16 and Daredevil #17. Romita will pen or ink over 100 issues and covers of Spider-Man and become Marvel's Art Director in the 1970's.
